Edipo re – RAI Press Office

The tragedy of the origins, with the rediscovered centrality of the Greek choir, real co-star of the story: it is Sophocles’s “Oedipus re” at the Greek Theater of Syracuse signed by Robert Carsen that Rai Cultura proposes on Saturday 30 July at 9.15 pm in first viewing on Rai 5.
Oedipus, the foreigner who ten years earlier had defeated the Sphinx, reigns in Thebes, husband of Jocasta and father of 4 children. Led by a priest, his subjects ask him for help against the plague that devastates the city. At first Oedipus seeks the cause indicated by the oracle, the murderer of the previous king, Laius, then his becomes the search for his own identity, which a messenger reveals to him different from what he believed. A cross investigation ultimately leads to the truth. Oedipus is the son of Laius, he unknowingly killed his father, married his mother and generated 4 sons-brothers.
Protagonists Giuseppe Sartori (Oedipus Re), German Rosary (Choir Leader), Elena Polic Greco (Corifea), Paolo Mazzarelli (Creon), Graziano Piazza (Tiresia), Maddalena Crippa (Jocasta), Massimo Cimaglia (First messenger), Antonello Cossia ( Servant of Laius), Dario Battaglia (Second messenger) and the Theban Choir.
The show was filmed as part of the 57th season of the Inda Foundation at the Greek Theater in Syracuse, costumes made by the Tailoring Laboratory of the Inda Foundation and sets created by the Inda Foundation scenography workshop.
