Coca-Cola reacts to Edeka order freeze
The German supermarket chain Edeka has a dispute with the US beverage company Coca-Cola. The reason is a price increase in November 2019. In response, Edeka recommended that its branches stop ordering in several regions. Now Coca-Cola is responding to this recommendation.
The beverage giant is not happy with the decision. A spokesman told watson:
“We have had a longstanding, trusting and successful cooperation with Edeka. Against this background, we very much regret that Edeka has decided to temporarily reduce the Coca-Cola range and to stop ordering part of our product range.“ You bet on the continuation of the partnership and stay in dialogue with Edeka about future cooperation.
The group not only increased prices last November, but also adjusted the conditions for dealers. For example, discounts should only be offered if the store has the entire Coca-Cola range on offer. In addition to cola, this also includes Sprite, Fanta or the mineral water Vio.
Up to 120 products affected
In some Edeka branches, up to 120 products are apparently affected by the recommended order freeze. In a letter from Edeka-Nord, however, there is probably only a little vague mention of “discrepancies at the international level” and “national differences”.
There are also reports that not the price increase, which is also confirmed by other supermarket chains, but storage capacities and assortment adjustments led to the order freeze.
It is not the first time that Edeka – or the Agecore purchasing association to which Edeka belongs – has adopted such methods. Just over two years ago, the retail chain temporarily removed more than 200 Nestlé products from its range.
Back then, it was not about the controversial methods of the food company, but also about delivery prices.
