Edeka is backing down: New technology is being sidelined

Edeka is said to have decided against the further development of “Scan&Go”. This is from a report by the “Lebensmittel Zeitung” out, which refers to sources from circles close to the company. According to these, the new technology should not be further advanced because the expectations of the system have not yet been met.

“Scan&Go” is a function that has been integrated into the Edeka app. Customers can independently scan products in the store. This eliminates unpacking at the checkout and waiting times at the checkout belt. You just show the cashier a code that needs to be scanned. You can then pay as usual. Alternatively, the purchase can also be paid directly using the payment method stored in the Edeka app.

Edeka: Scan&Go will be continued for the time being

Although the further development of Scan&Go is on hold for the time being, that does not mean that Edeka will switch off the previous systems. Customers can continue to use the app including the Scan&Go function as usual. The function is only available in selected markets so far. Additional branches will probably not be added due to the current plans.

Technical problems that could arise with the app are also to be fixed. The pause that has been taken is to be used to analyze the number of users and to evaluate which payment methods Edeka intends to use in the future. As soon as there is something new about Scan&Go at Edeka, we will update the article accordingly.
