He traveled all over the world for his work. “He has recorded human life in more than eighty countries. There is no aspect of life that Posthuma de Boer has left untouched,” can be read on his website. Together with writer Cees Nooteboom, he made travel reports for Avenue magazine.
He started his long career in 1948 as a photo assistant at the ANP news agency. He then worked for several newspapers and weeklies. He made photos for Het Parool, de Volkskrant, Time-Life, KRO-Studio, Avenue, Holland Herald and Sabena-Revue.
