Paris (AFP) – “It’s something that liberated me”: after the trial which allowed his cyber-stalkers to be convicted, Eddy de Pretto will release his “lightest” album as he says to the AFP.

Suspended prison sentences of three to six months were handed down in mid-December 2022 against people who had harassed the singer online, using homophobic messages, after a concert in June 2021 in a Parisian church.
“It was a step to see them all sitting on the bench opposite (in correctional) with for the most part a lot of mistrust, confidence in what they had done and said,” rewinds the artist.
“This shit (cyber-harassment), either I decided to be a victim of it, or I decided to counter it and do positive things with it: I’m on the verge of releasing my lightest album” .
The artist has just published two tracks, “R+V” and “Love’n’tendresse”, in advance of a future album hoped for in the fall. The dates of his new 2024 tour have also been revealed, including two evenings at L’Olympia in April.
This trial, “it’s something that freed me, we heard them – I will never understand their position -, I was heard, the justice system made its decision. It’s up to me to gain perspective , hindsight”, adds the thirty-year-old who has built a great start to his career with two albums, “Cure” (2018) and “To all the bastards” (2021).
The new songs from the third album were therefore written “as we throw ourselves, like that, without over-intellectualizing”. There is a lot of talk about the impulses of the heart and the body, of love and instinct.
“Radical desire to move”
The first piece, “R+V” (for Rimbaud and Verlaine), very new pop, evokes inspiring figures, which also include Elton John, Jean Genet and even RuPaul, famous drag queen.
We hear “Help me bring out the rainbow that is still sinking under the rubble”, even if the singer refuses to become a voice for the LGBTQIA+ community. But accepts with great happiness to have been named personality of the year by Têtu magazine: “It’s magnificent”.
Coming back to the music, the second track released recently, “Love’n’tendresse”, sounds very club, with a robust clip on a crash test sequence repeated in a loop.
“The story is that we always try again in love, even if we ‘crash’ in our relationships: we go back, we form other relationships.”
“It’s like in music. The album too, we’re going back to it,” slips the one who at the end of his big tours always has the temptation to “drop everything” and go “raise goats” (laughs) .
“Every time, I say to myself: what are you playing? Until what age are you going to put yourself in front of people to seek validation? I then think about becoming a director, doing production or being a vocal coach but I I now understand that I will probably be a singer all my life.
As a good control freak, Eddy de Pretto opened a new chapter by founding his own label, Otterped Records, or De Pretto in reverse, which amuses him because we also hear “queer authors” as he says in laughing.
The singer-songwriter promises an album “less about introspection” and “more about the radical desire to move”. “The dates of my next tour are starting to fill up and it’s mostly the seats that go first, but I warn the spectators: no one is going to stay seated.”
