The populations of the city of Bertoua, regional capital of the East, will very soon be spared from power cuts. This is the full assurance given by the Electricity Development Corporation (EDC), following the injection into the Eastern Interconnected Network (RIE) of the first eight megawatts of the Lom Pangar foot plant, at through the commissioning of its first turbine.

This quantity of electrical energy was indeed transferred on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 from these facilities to the transformer station which supplies the city of Bertoua, through a 90 kilovolt line over a distance of 105 kilometers, under the supervision of the concessionaire. EDC. “I had said that the first megawatts of the Lom Pangar foot plant would be available in May. We are in May, and we are there. We are testing all settings to make sure everything is working fine. By tomorrow (Wednesday, May 24, 2023) at the latest, the people of Bertoua will consume the energy of the Lom Pangar foot plant “, gargled the general manager of EDC, Théodore Nsangou, on the national station of Cameroon Radio Television (CRTV).

This operation should contribute to reducing the energy deficit in the eastern regional capital, whose consumption load at its optimum is estimated at 12MW.

EDC also plans to commission the second turbine of the foot plant, by June 15, for an additional production of 8MW, which will bring the energy capacity transferred to the transformer station to 16MW. ” This operation will make it possible to have two turbines from the foot plant, that is to say a little more than 16MW, which largely covers the load in the East”adds Théodore Nsangou.

EDC plans to have the four turbines that make up the foot plant permanently in operation by the end of 2023, with the aim of eventually electrifying 150 localities in the East region.
