British artist Ed Sheeran has released his new album Autumn Variations.
About the idea for this album, Sheeran said: “Last fall, my friends and I found that we were going through many changes in life. After the heat of the summer, everything was either calming down, stabilizing, reaching a peak, or collapsing.”
He added: “When I went through a difficult time at the beginning of last year, writing songs helped me understand my feelings and come to terms with what was happening. When I followed my friends’ various situations, I wrote songs – some from their point of view – about how we looked at the world at the time. Among them were stories about falling In love, making friends, and feelings of heartbreak, depression, loneliness, and confusion.”
Regarding the source of his inspiration for this album, he said: “My father and brother told me about a composer called Elgar, who wrote the song Enigma Variations, where each of the fourteen pieces of music revolved around a different friend of his. This is what inspired me when producing this album. When “I recorded Subtrac with Aaron Dessner, and our ideas clicked immediately. We wrote and recorded non-stop, and this album was born out of that partnership. I feel like he captured the feeling of autumn really well on this album and I hope everyone loves it as much as I do.”
Ed also released a special video clip for the song American Town from the new album, Live Acousticn, where he sings the song live.
Ed Sheeran will perform two sold-out shows at the Royal Albert Hall in London on November 18 and 19. He is set to perform his new album Autumn Variations in its entirety on both nights, with Ed also being accompanied by a huge band and this will be the only remaining opportunity to see him in concert in the UK this year.
