Ed Sheeran says he reached a low point during the world tour he made in 2014. The 29-year-old Briton told at an online mental health conference that he drank a lot during that time and slept during the day.
“I stayed up all night, drank all the time, and slept on the tour bus,” said Sheeran. “Those buses were parked under the stadiums I played in. During the day I slept, I woke up to play the show, went for a drink and got back on the bus. I may have seen no sunlight for four months.”
The singer broke through in 2011 with The A Team, but also quickly noticed the flip side of such a hectic existence. “It’s all fun at first, you lead a rock ‘n’ roll life. But after that I went through a sad time. That period was the lowest point in my life.”
Sheeran said that he has already broken up with many family members and friends because their behavior changed due to his success. “They were acting strangely at me, or even stealing from me. Fame increases the insecurities of the people around you. There are so many people I stop talking to because it became uncomfortable and different.”
The Briton also suffered from panic attacks when surrounded by large groups of people. “It bothered me on the metro, on airplanes, in supermarkets. Somehow I assume that everyone will be horrible to me, when it is often not at all.”
