Ed Sheeran hits record 3 billion streams on Spotify

MUSIC – A new record on Spotify and Ed Sheeran. Wednesday, December 22, the tube of Ed SheeranShape of You, has reached 3 billion streams on the music platform. From his album ÷ (Divide) released in 2017, the title is the first to achieve this score.

Spotify has a “Billions club” playlist which brings together all the titles to exceed one billion streams. There are over 190, and Ed Sheeran was already with the club before Wednesday. But it is the first song on the platform to exceed three times the billion.

Ed Sheeran thanked his fans by posting a video on Instagram in which he said that Shape of You was not supposed to be the single from the album originally. The artist preferred the title Castle on the Hill. It is clear that he was wrong and that he did well to trust his label: ”We released both songs at the same time and … I was wrong. And here we are with Shape of You which reached 3 billion plays, ”he said.

The artist released his new album in 2021, = (Equals), which placed # 1 in Spotify’s Top 10 Album Debut. Ed Sheeran is currently nominated for the Brit Awards, named alongside Adele in the categories “Song of the Year”, “Artist of the Year” and “Album of the Year”.
