NEW YORK — An Ecuadorian man returned Wednesday to his workplace on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, the same place where he was stabbed three times by a customer who did not pay for a juice.
The brutal stabbing attack occurred on April 12 around 8:30 p.m. at a juice shop called Juice Island on Third Avenue near East 61st Street, the New York Police said.
Luis Morocho, the victim in the act, was returning in a wheelchair to the scene where he suffered the stabbing attack that almost cost him his life. He didn’t have the strength to speak this day but with his presence he wanted to send a message.
“He made an appearance so that people can see the conditions in which he finds himself and so that the prosecutor [vea] the conditions he is in,” said Fernando de Mateo of Bodegas Unidas de America. “We are asking prosecutor Alvin Bragg to not even post bail in this case to ensure that this woman remains in prison. You have to set an example.”
The petition by the organization Bodegas Unidas de America puts pressure on the Manhattan prosecutor’s office not to grant bail to 23-year-old Cha’la Jameson accused of the attack that was recorded by security cameras in the juice business where Morocho works .
“He is seriously ill right now and we brought him here so they can help us, so they can see what happened to him,” said the victim’s brother, Segundo Morocho. “He can’t do much or he can’t do anything and that depends one to do it all [por] he.”
The attacker who fled the scene with the knife had been at the scene two hours earlier and had an altercation with the victim. Not being able to finalize the transaction to pay for a juice, the victim gave her the drink but she still withdrew with alleged threats and vandalizing the place.
The accused for the moment remains in custody and faces charges of robbery and attempted murder.
