Quito. The Ecuadorian Citizen Revolution movement (RC, left) on Tuesday described as inhumane the situation faced by former Vice President Jorge Glas (2013-2018), who remains in the maximum security prison known as “La Roca.”
“We express our deep indignation at the inhumane situation experienced by our colleague Jorge Glas, who remains held in prison, the victim of ruthless political persecution,” the parliamentary group said in a statement posted on its social network X.
In the text, the RC bench states that it is unacceptable that in a country that calls itself democratic, the human rights of its coreligionist are systematically violated.
“Jorge Glas has not only been deprived of his freedom, but has been subjected to conditions that seek to break his spirit and his health, in an attempt to silence him and weaken the strength of those of us who fight and believe in a just Ecuador free of the corruption that truly plagues the country,” adds the statement titled “Jorge kidnapped.”
The opposition says the judicial system is manipulated to serve “dark interests” that seek to eliminate any trace of opposition and hold the will of the Ecuadorian people hostage.
The group also expressed “deep indignation” at what they consider to be the “political kidnapping” of Glas, who they consider to be the victim of “merciless persecution.”
