He Ecuadorian government will invest more than 5 million dollars in the acquisition of 21 metal bridges type Bailey to guarantee timely attention to road emergencies, mainly caused by the El Niño phenomenon.
The Minister of Transportation and Public Works, Roberto Luquerescued and launched a contracting process to acquire metal bridges of different lengths for the Red Vial Estatal (RVE)with an investment of 4.9 million dollars plus value added tax (VAT).
There are 21 metal bridges – from 24 to 60 meters in length and one traffic lane – that will be manufactured by an Ecuadorian company, which has 800 workers, the Ministry indicated this Wednesday in a statement.
To start the work, the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works (MTOP) delivered 50% of the total contract value as an advance payment.
The structures under construction “have all the certificates that confirm the quality of the steel used in the manufacturing of the bridges, in addition to the certifications of compliance with international quality standards, welding manufacturing, among others,” the letter states.
He points out that the galvanizing of the bridges “lasts up to 30 years.”
All structural components of the bridge will be manufactured from high-strength structural steel or the equivalent steel designated for use in bridge structures, he explained.
As a guarantee for the State, the supplier will hire the specialized inspection, duly qualified, that certifies with tests, the quality of all the materials used, in accordance with the technical specifications carried out by the MTOP.
The contract also includes advice and training for MTOP technicians and workers, regarding the assembly, disassembly and maintenance of the bridges. EFE (I)
