Of that amount, 200 million will be for the electricity distribution network program for the shrimp sector, 117.5 million for health and 170.2 million for education, the ministry indicated.
The agreement between the Ecuadorian government and the CAF was finalized this Friday in Spain, where the Minister of Economy and Finance, Pablo Arosemena, is located.
According to the institution, with these funds the Ecuadorian aquaculture agroindustrial sector will use clean energy sources instead of fossil fuels that impact the environment, and the objective is to electrify around 42 thousand hectares.
The most recent credits agreed with international organizations will serve as financing not only for the current government, but for the next one, said the government entity.
Although these credits would give the Executive a margin of operations, they are added to other commitments acquired by Ecuador with entities such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
Economists warn that the accumulated debt will be a challenge for the president elected on August 20 and for the next president as well.
In 2024, some creditors must begin paying the amount borrowed plus interest, a sum that in 2026 would be equivalent to nine percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
