Despite the fact that the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the end of the public health emergency caused by the pandemic, the authorities of the Andean nation assure that they will maintain epidemiological surveillance and the application of doses to avoid deaths.

The MSP pointed out that there is a trend of less than 600 confirmed cases in the last six weeks with no record of deaths.

We include Covid-19 in the list of Serious Acute Respiratory Infections (SARI) and we will maintain the diagnostic points in all first-level care establishments, the institution detailed in a statement.

In the text they affirm that they will strengthen the capacities to face new emergencies and pandemics with epidemiological surveillance systems, preparation of ambulatory and hospital medical services, a network of specialized laboratories, trained professionals and scientific research.

According to official data, between 2022 and the end of April 2023 there were 1,046,205 confirmed cases in Ecuador and a total of 36,083 deaths.
