Quito, Oct 22 (Prensa Latina) The Ministry of Public Health of Ecuador advanced the influenza vaccination campaign to the week that begins today due to the possible consequences of the El Niño climate phenomenon.
The process will start on Tuesday, October 24, with risk groups, that is, children six months to four years old, adults over 60 years of age, pregnant women, and patients with chronic diseases.
The country has two million doses to immunize the population, something that specialists consider necessary given the climatic conditions that may arise, since an increase in foodborne, skin and respiratory diseases is very likely.
Vaccination against influenza usually takes place in Ecuador in the month of December.
According to the World Health Organization, the incidence of flu and influenza is at levels similar to those recorded before the Covid-19 pandemic.
For this reason, the Ecuadorian authorities urge the population to get vaccinated for free at public health centers.
