The suspects were accused of organized crime, illicit enrichment and influence peddling because they filed appeals before judges in small towns demanding constitutional guarantees or arguing violation of rights to achieve the irregular release of dangerous criminal bosses or those responsible for emblematic cases of corruption.

The 14 people were arrested after 25 raids carried out in the provinces of El Oro, Azuay, Manabí, Pichincha, Chimborazo, Tungurahua, Guayas and Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, where the prosecution collected evidence such as computers, documents and other elements.
At the end of last year the prosecutor’s office uncovered a case that revealed a significant penetration of drug trafficking in the justice system, police, politics and even in this institution, in which 52 people are accused.

The prosecution also investigates and has revealed the main cases of corruption in recent years, especially in the governments of former presidents Rafael Correa (2007-2017), Lenín Moreno (2017-2021) and Guillermo Lasso (2021-2023), with some of its main officials in prison or escaped from the country.
