The airline Equacondor and the low-cost Chilean Sky have advanced in the procedures to begin operate on various frequencies in the local market of Ecuadoras reported this Friday by the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works.
Ecuadorian Cóndor Airline (Ecuacóndor SA) has already received an operating permit and is currently processing the respective certification before the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC) of Ecuador, the source specified.
The company must present the aircraft and manuals, among other details, during the certification process, which, on average, takes between four and six months, the Ministry added in a statement.
According to the preliminary information provided by this company, its interest is to operate, in the first period, the Quito-Cuenca, Quito-Guayaquil and Quito-Manta routes.
Ecuacóndor would start with the service of two aircraft with capacities for 40 passengersadded the Ministry.
Sky
Meanwhile, the Chilean Sky, which also operates in Peru, has already been established as a company in Ecuador with the formalities required by internal regulations.
Sky is currently processing operating permits in Ecuador as a local company, with foreign capital, and is working on the preparation of different reports required by Ecuadorian Civil Aviation to grant the operating permit.
The low-cost airline plans to operate, in the first period, the Quito-Guayaquil, Quito-Guayaquil-Galápagos, Quito-Manta and Quito-Cuenca routes; and, in a second stage, the Quito-Loja and Quito-Santa Rosa frequencies.
The airline, with headquarters in Chile, has a fleet of 40 state-of-the-art A320neo aircraft, with capacity for 184 passengers.
Both Ecuacóndor and Sky seek to begin their operations in the local market this year to join the domestic flights carried out by the airlines Avianca, Latam and Aeroregional.
Lima-Guayaquil
The Ministry of Transportation recalled that, regarding international connections, the airline JetSMART will begin operating the Lima-Quito route next March and from April on the Lima-Guayaquil route, with three weekly frequencies to each of the destinations.
Twenty international airlines maintain regular frequencies between Ecuador and various destinations abroad, the source added. EFE
