The President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, sent to Togo an election observation mission consisting of forty (40) observers to monitor legislative elections and regional events that is scheduled for April 29, 2024. in this country.
This mission is within the framework of the provisions of article 12 of the ECOWAS Additional Protocol on democracy and good governance, and it includes support from the regional organization to its member states to hold their elections. The mission is led by the Gambian Vice President, Ms. Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang.
The mission consists of ambassadors of member states accredited to ECOWAS; representatives of the Court of Justice and the ECOWAS Parliament; civil society organizations; media professionals and election observation experts from the West African region.
This observation mission is used following the recommendations of a pre-election intelligence mission that stayed in Togo, from April 15 to 20, 2024, to assess the levels of preparation for holding these elections.
While in Togo, the observation mission will hold consultations with the main stakeholders in the electoral process and monitor the date of the voting process, April 29, 2024.
