This Sunday, July 30, 2023, ECOWAS is planning an extraordinary summit on the ongoing conflict situation in Niger. At the announcement of this conclave, the putschists who overthrew Mohamed Bazoum reminded the sub-regional institution that they are ready to defend their homeland against its “plan of aggression”.
The extraordinary ECOWAS summit in sight on the situation in Niger would aim to set up a military intervention plan against the putschists. This is what should be remembered from press release No. 10 of the National Council for the Safeguarding of the Fatherland (CNPS).
According to the text read by Col.Major Amadou Abdramane, the objective of the meeting of ECOWAS Heads of State would be “the validation of a plan of aggression against Niger, through an imminent military intervention in Niamey, in collaboration with African countries which are not members of the Organization and certain Western countries”.

The showdown officially takes place between the CNPS and ECOWAS. In any case, the soldiers are ready and do not want to back down. “We once again remind ECOWAS or any other adventurer of our firm determination to defend our homeland”said the spokesman for the putschists.
Between negotiation and military intervention, what option for ECOWAS?
ECOWAS had initially announced a mission of talks in Niamey before changing its mind. Patrice Talon had been designated to lead this mission, but in the end he did not go. The organization is certainly waiting for today’s summit to take formal decisions.
The summit will decide on the form that ECOWAS intervention will take in the resolution of this problem. Anyway, it is known that she almost never won on the way to negotiation with putschists.

Currently, the country is held by the National Council for the Safeguarding of the Homeland (CNPS), led by General Abdourahamane Tchiani.
