Economy: MTC plans to start tests on the first five kilometers of Line 2 in

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) foresees that in the first quarter of 2021 the tests of the first 5 kilometers of the route of Line 2 of the Lima Metro will begin.

The complete work, which goes from Callao to Ate, is expected to be operational in the first half of 2025, according to the established schedule.

“This first section is expected to be ready in May or June of the following year, our goal is for it to start operating on the Bicentennial of the Independence of the Republic. On the other hand, with the two tunnel boring machines, which will allow us a faster excavation, we will be able to overcome the delays that have been had these months due to COVID-19 and finish the rest of line 2 and the branch of line 4 in the deadlines global established “said the head of the MTC, Carlos Estremadoyro.

This morning, the minister inspected the segment manufacturing plant in order to verify that the concrete structures that will form the rings that will cover the tunnel of the future Line 2 and the branch 4 of the Lima Metro are produced in full operation .

“The plant has been operating at 100% since the end of last year and so far more than 7,300 segments have been ready, forming 1,050 rings of the 13,000 that are needed in total. There is a good production and it could be doubled if necessary. This will allow the tunnel boring machines to start working at the end of the year to multiply the speed of the excavations that are being carried out “, reported.

Line 2 of the Lima Metro and the Av. Faucett – Av. Gambetta branch of the Basic Network of the Lima and Callao Metro will interconnect 13 districts of Lima and the constitutional province of Callao. It is expected to carry more than one million passengers a day.
