Economical: Which is the Vespa GTS 150 or Honda Vario 160?

Jakarta

Automatic motorbikes or scooters are now a mainstay of transportation for urban communities. Apart from its practicality, automatic motorbikes are also known as efficient transportation in terms of fuel use.

The detikOto team has tested several lines of automatic motorbikes. Starting from classic ones like the Vespa GTS 150, to sporty ones like the Honda Vario 160.

Even though these two motorbikes play in different segments, they both carry engines in the same range. So it will be interesting to see the performance of these two motorbikes when tested for fuel efficiency.

Please note beforehand, the Vespa GTS 150 is the new flagship from Piaggio in Indonesia. This motorbike designed by Italian engineers carries the latest generation i-Get engine with 4 valves with a capacity of 155 cc.

This engine with a single cylinder configuration is claimed to have a maximum power of 15.4 HP at 8,250 RPM and peak torque of 15 Nm at 6,500 RPM.

Meanwhile, the Vario 160 is Honda’s new flagship for its Vario series. With the new 160, Honda has paired a 4 valve SOHC engine with eSP+ technology with a capacity of 156.9 cc.

Honda claims that this engine is capable of producing up to 15.18 HP of power at 8,500 RPM and 13.8 Nm of torque at 7,000 RPM.

Like the tests that detikOto generally carries out on two-wheeled vehicles, the fuel consumption test is carried out on these two motorbikes using a full-to-full mechanism.

This means that our test motorbike was filled with petrol, then ran normally for a distance of at least 40 km, and filled the petrol tank completely again. Then we divide the distance traveled by the number of liters of petrol entered, aka km per liter.

From the tests we carried out on the Vespa GTS 150, this iconic automatic motorbike can produce 39.5 km per liter. Meanwhile, the Honda Vario 160 can be more economical and gets a figure of 50.7 km per liter.

There are many factors that make these two motorbikes different in terms of average fuel consumption, starting from their power, acceleration figures, to their weight. Also keep in mind, these two motorbikes play in different segments and target different markets.
