Autovisie not only tests electric cars for their range and consumption, we also measure what they use in practice with petrol and hybrid cars. This time we test how economical the new Toyota Corolla Cross is.
The difference between the manufacturer’s specifications and actual consumption is large for some cars. For this reason, Autovisie tests the real average consumption in practice with air conditioning and radio on. This way you know better how economical the car really is.
The actual consumption of the Toyota Corolla Cross
Toyota’s hybrid powertrain, which is found in the Corolla Cross, for example, has now been developed so far that the advantages convincingly outweigh any disadvantages. Because both the electric motor and the combustion engine have become increasingly powerful and better attuned to each other, the four-cylinder rarely has to run in the high speed range for a long time with all the noise that entails. Also, the response to the accelerator pedal is no longer nearly as elastic during the test.
Powertrain
We drove the Toyota Corolla Cross with the 1.8 hybrid powertrain.
Consumption turned out to be a lot better than promised with 1 in 22.2 instead of 1 in 20. If you just turn with the traffic, you can especially enjoy the unlimited flexibility. The 1.8 only makes itself heard when merging onto the highway or driving on the autobahn with a constant 140 km/h+ on the counter.

But that never lasts long, because there is enough torque to get up to speed quickly. The tires and wind can usually be heard better than the drivetrain of the Toyota Corolla Cross.
