Economic activity increased in Sinaloa, Zacatecas and Guerrero: Inegi

At the end of the first quarter of 2024, Sinaloa, Zacatecas and Guerrero registered the most significant growth in their economic activity compared to the last quarter of 2023, revealed the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

This morning, Inegi presented the results of the Quarterly Indicator of State Economic Activity (Itaee), which provides an overview of the economic development of the country’s 32 federal entities.

During the first quarter of 2024 and with seasonally adjusted figures, economic activity in Sinaloa was 7.1 percent; Zacatecas, 4.6 percent; Guerrero, 4.3 percent; Baja California Sur and Durango increased 2.9 and 2.7 percent, in that order.

Meanwhile, 12 states reported declines in their economic activity, with Coahuila standing out with a quarterly decline of 2 percent, while Tlaxcala contracted 1.5 percent.

In comparison with the first quarter of 2023, Quintana Roo continues to show the highest annual rate among the 32 federal entities, with a growth of 20.6 percent; followed by Campeche, with 5.8 percent annually; Durango, 5.3 percent.

Meanwhile, Zacatecas, Tabasco, Guerrero, Coahuila and Jalisco were the five entities with a drop in the first quarter of 2024, compared to the same period in 2023, with 2.1, 2.3, 1.8, 3.1 and 0.1 percent, in that order.

According to original figures, Quintana Roo reported the greatest contribution to the real variation in national economic activity, with 0.27 points; the state of Mexico and Nuevo Leon, 0.21 and 0.18 points.

During the first quarter of 2024, the Mexican economy grew 0.3 percent quarterly and 1.6 percent compared to the same quarter last year.
