Eco Times mobile site celebrates the landing of the Mars probe’Why is it back? Mars’ broadcast

Gwacheon National Science Museum (Director Jeongmo Lee) is an online science talk broadcast for teenagers who are spending vacation preparing for promotion to a new school year,’Why Come Back? Mars’ was announced on February 19th at 8 pm.

NASA’s Mars rover’Perserverence’ is about to land at dawn on the 19th with news of the UAE and China’s Mars rover that arrived on Mars after leaving Earth in July 2020. , Patience)’ is a science talk program that helps the public understand the mission.

The UAE’s Mars probe’Amal’ will enter Mars orbit on the 9th by an orbiter, and the Chinese probe’Tenwon 1’will enter Mars orbit on the 10th and attempt to land in April.

This broadcast was conducted by experts in the field of rockets and astronomy at the Gwacheon Science Museum, and Paul Yun, an ambassador for the solar system of NASA, who participated in the launch commemorative online broadcast in July last year, and Dr. Shim Chae-kyung of the Korea Astronomical Research Institute. Together with lectures and talks.

Although life with limited external activities due to Corona 19 has been continuing for more than a year, this broadcast prepared with hopes for youth to develop a greater spirit of inquiry and dreams such as space exploration, exploration of Mars in connection with the main mission of the landing facility this time. I plan to highlight the plan.

▲ Crater (top) and the landing process (bottom-entry, descent, landing) of the perservation as an example of the expected landing site.

NASA’s fifth rover to Mars, the Perservance, flew 480 million km at a speed of more than 20 times the speed of a bullet, entered Mars orbit, and immediately entered Mars’ atmosphere, which is about 1% of the Earth’s atmosphere. The landing process must be carried out as programmed in advance. It seems that it will attract the interest of teenagers by learning about this process, which is called ‘7 minutes of fear’.

The landing site for this expedition is the Jezero crater, which is presumed to be a sedimentary delta with a high possibility of living organisms in the past.

Here, we plan to hear from experts on the mission of finding and storing soil and rock samples for finding traces of ancient life that Perservance will perform, and exploration plans after that.

Although it is an online broadcast, a quiz event will be held between talks so that viewers can participate through real-time comments. In addition, there is an experimental video corner of’Make the Mars Probe Accurately Landing’ where you can watch the broadcast and experience it at home.

Director Lee Jung-mo of the National Gwacheon Science Museum said, “At the time when the UAE, which has successfully developed its own satellite with the support of the United States and Korea, becomes the fifth country in the world to enter Mars orbit, Korea will send a lunar orbiter in 2022 and a lunar lander in 2030. A plan is in place. We hope that our youth will be interested in the next stage of exploration on Mars and develop their curiosity.”

Director Lee added, “The Gwacheon Science Museum will try to provide various programs for this purpose.”
