With the upcoming construction of a reception pavilion and a walkway and the demolition of the last industrial buildings to make way for housing, Quebec City will have completed its two eco-districts in Pointe-aux-Lièvres and D ‘ Estimauville, a decade after their launch.
The sustainable development projects of the two central sectors of the city were launched in 2010. They will finally materialize in the coming months, confirmed the mayor, Régis Labeaume.
For him, “it did not take time”, if we compare to what is done elsewhere in the world in terms of eco-districts.

“It was complicated to start”, with the difficulty of finding promoters to develop at the start, he says, but in a decade, he is proud to have created “coveted living environments”.
In the two eco-districts, 635 units have been built or are under construction.
Also, 644 units are in the process of sale or construction for a total of 1300 units.
A park and a community garden are being developed in D’Estimauville. At Pointe-aux-Lièvres, an exercise area for dogs has been improved.
5000 residents
In total, when everything is finished, 5,000 people will live there and 3,500 will work there.

For the City, investments have been major. In all, $ 12 million for the redevelopment of Avenue D’Estimauville, $ 15 million for the decontamination of Pointe-aux-Lièvres and the costs that still run for that of the D’Estimauville sector.
In the coming months, we will see the welcome pavilion appear at Pointe-aux-Lièvres. At a cost of $ 5 million, of which $ 3 million comes from provincial grants as part of the Rêvons nos rivières project, it will house a multipurpose room, an interpretation hall, sanitary services and a terrace.
It will replace the trailers that were installed in the sector in 2009. Work will begin this summer for an inauguration in September 2021.
The wooden footbridge which will link Pointe-aux-Lièvres and 1re Avenue is under construction. It will be available in winter 2021.
The land that remains to be developed in the two districts is all under construction or in the process of acquisition, said Mr. Labeaume.
Around D’Estimauville, we will let the private sector do its work, he added.

Now, the Labeaume administration will focus its efforts on the Chaudière sector, in the corner of IKEA, where we want to build a new district around the west terminus of the tramway.
