ECLAT Festival Neue Musik Stuttgart takes place digitally

This year the ECLAT Festival Neue Musik Stuttgart comes in a hybrid format and invites you to a digital live event. From Wednesday, February 3rd to Sunday, February 7th, all concerts including the extensive accompanying program will be streamed from the Theaterhaus Stuttgart. The 13 concerts with 35 works include a total of 24 premieres on the program.

“With care, inventiveness and playfulness”

For the 41st year, ECLAT is experiencing an interplay of musicians, media and culture professionals who exhaust the digital field of possibilities. The production team has created its own web portal for this purpose. According to the motto: “With care, inventiveness and playfulness”, ECLAT-digital networks the local audience with worldwide participants. They can take part in the festival interactively with chats, interviews, discussions with artists and games.

ECLAT 2021 looks at global issues

Music connects people across all borders. A look at major issues of global importance is therefore part of the festival. This year the main focus is on the political situation in Belarus. The activist Maria Kalesnikava campaigned for the democracy movement in Belarus last year and has been imprisoned since then. The project ECHOES – VOICES FROM BELARUS dedicates himself to her with artistic statements. In it, artists from Belarus and Germany use music video clips to draw attention to the situation in neighboring European countries. A highlight is the presentation of the human rights award by the Gerhart and Renate Baum Foundation. The award will be given to Maria Kalesnikava on Sunday, February 7th. The main topic is visually accompanied by the digital exhibition “Belarus – the way to yourself”.

The project offers another highlight VOICE AFFAIRS, with which the festival will open the concert series on Wednesday, February 3rd. The experimental music scene from Lebanon combines electronic music and sound art with improvisation and avant-pop. The variety of voices that come together here reflects the multifaceted musical and cultural region of Lebanon.

This will sound on Saturday, February 6th set research with playful sounds: innovation and audio theater form an experience for ears and eyes at the same time. Composer and sound artist Ricardo Eizirik presented with his work Placeholder “… strange sounds from a strange, incoherent year …”. And if you want to experience hybrid sound art from three music channels and three TV screens, you can go to Kingdom – A Word of Mouth by Emilio Guim. The video below from his work “Wired” shows a presentation of his sound art.
