ECDC warns of severe flu season due to stubborn flu variant

The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) warns of a potentially severe flu season, which can especially affect the elderly. Influenza variant A(H3N2) has so far been most commonly found in Europe and appears to be difficult to beat by the flu shot. It is also a spicy flu variant, according to ECDC. This reports the Telegraaf.

It is also significant that A(H3N2) is already spreading. However, ECDC does not dare to say for sure what the coming flu season will look like. However, the center already wants to warn because the corona pandemic has not yet been curbed.

Serious Consequences

“A sharp rise in the number of flu cases during the corona pandemic could have serious consequences for the elderly and people with a weakened immune system. That will put extra pressure on healthcare. It is therefore important that we take the necessary precautions and protect the vulnerable,” said Pasi Penttinen of ECDC. In addition to the elderly, pregnant women and people with chronic conditions are also more susceptible to serious flu.
