With the lapse of every Formula 1 Grand Prix, Alexander Albon’s chances of getting a Red Bull seat in 2021 seem to be diminishing. As far as Bernie Ecclestone is concerned, Max Verstappen’s team would do well to replace Albon next year and he sees the ideal candidate in the much-mentioned Nico Hulkenberg.
“He’s fast, he’s smart and he never turns his heart into a murder hole”, Ecclestone commends ‘The Hulk’. “He is not like many other drivers a parrot who just parrot the team. Red Bull should hire him because he is the type of driver that suits that team.”
And what about the Max Verstappen factor? In the eyes of Ecclestone, is Hulkenberg a match for the young Dutchman? Yes, that’s the simple answer. “He can deliver the desired results, because he is very strong mentally. You have to be that too when you ride next to Max Verstappen, because that ‘boy’ is a real natural phenomenon.”
Albon’s chair legs falter and Verstappen has already expressed his preference for Nico Hulkenberg. How long will Red Bull allow Albon to struggle? That and more is discussed by racing driver Tom Coronel, F1 journalist Ruud Dimmers and host Thomas van Groningen in the latest RN365 podcast, which can be heard below.
