LIBREVILLE, September 5 (AGP)- Meeting on September 4 in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, for an extraordinary summit to examine the political and security situation in Gabon, the leaders of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) decided of suspend Gabon from all its authorities until the return to constitutional order.
« The Conference decided to suspend with immediate effect, the participation of the Gabonese Republic in all the activities of the community until the return of constitutional order as soon as possible.“, they decided at the end of the extraordinary session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of ECCAS.
The participants, including the Central African, Equatorial Guinean, Congolese and Angolan presidents, as well as the Prime Minister of Sao Tome and Principe, also demanded the organization of a dialogue between Gabonese political actors, in order to facilitate a return to constitutional order as soon as possible.
In addition, the President of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, has been appointed as current president of the organization with the temporary relocation of the headquarters from Libreville, Gabonese capital, to Malabo, Equatorial Guinean capital.
As a reminder, on August 30, a group of Gabonese officers, in the name of the Committee for the Transition and the Restoration of Institutions (CTRI), seized power to ” put an end to the regime in place“, after the announcement of the re-election of President Ali Bongo Ondimba. Brice Oligui Nguema, president of the CTRI, was sworn in on Monday in Libreville as Gabon’s transitional president, while Mr. Ali Bongo is under house arrest, his son Nourredine and some officials have been arrested.
