According to the euractiv.com portal, which has received the draft document, the European Commission will urge EU member states to step up preparations for a “complete cut-off of Russian gas supplies” by considering emergency measures such as temporary restrictions on gas prices.

After Russia in April cut off gas supplies Poland and Bulgaria, the Commission calls on Member States to prepare for a full – scale “supply shock”.
One of the new measures planned in Brussels to address the situation would be direct market intervention with “a maximum regulated price for natural gas supplied to European consumers and businesses”.
Although curbing gas prices would immediately remove the burden from consumers and curb inflationary pressures on the economy, it is a highly controversial tool within the European Commission itself, as well as among MEPs and analysts.
