The covid pandemic continues today because of the unvaccinated, EU Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakidis told the European Parliament today.
She described the introduction of covid certificates and the scale of immunization against the new disease in the EU as a success. The European Commissioner added that this week the EC will propose changes in the rules for the certificates and for the placement of additional doses of vaccines for the immunized, BTA reports.
Kyriakidis pointed out that the increase in the number of patients in recent weeks is alarming. According to her, vaccines remain the most effective means of combating the pandemic. Vaccines are not enough, so we are working to provide publicly available medicines, the commissioner added.
In the opinions of the parliamentary groups from the European People’s Party, they supported the view that the blame for the pandemic lies with the unvaccinated. From this political force they defined the certificates as a success.
The Socialists and Democrats said the vaccines were working, but urged EU countries to coordinate anti-epidemic measures. The Renew Europe group reported that individual countries were introducing various measures and insisted on increasing public confidence in the measures, as well as combating misinformation about the pandemic.
The Greens also called for a coherent European approach with well-thought-out measures. They joined the call to counter disinformation, but insisted that vaccination remain a voluntary solution. The Identity and Democracy Group has called for the provision of covid pills and the development of new treatments for the disease.
According to European conservatives and reformers, vaccines have not achieved their goal of providing lasting immunity. According to them, covid certificates are a failure because they did not limit the pandemic and create discrimination. This group joined the call for vaccination to remain voluntary.
The left pointed out that the EU has succeeded with the joint procurement of vaccines and the introduction of certificates. They also supported voluntary vaccination, but commented that today the EU is back where it was a year ago in terms of the pandemic. According to them, even if everyone is vaccinated, the pandemic will not be stopped until there is public treatment.
