EC Saint-Étienne Loire in shock after an accident – News

EC Saint-Étienne Loire is going through very difficult times. This Wednesday afternoon, a group of young riders from the Saint-Etienne club was the victim of an accident in the middle of training. According to ProgressAt around 4 p.m., a motorist arriving from the front, surprised by the maneuver of the vehicle overtaking the cyclists in the opposite direction, collided with a majority of the group. 43 firefighters were mobilized to help the injured.

They were 18 cyclists in total, including four supervisors. The group was led at that time by the former professional rider and current manager of the Pôle de Saint-Étienne, Dominique Garde. “The whole group was experienced. There were no beginners among the runners. These are Cadets who were accompanied by a few Juniors. They were neatly lined up, two abreast. It is not a dangerous road. They were returning to Saint-Étienne and were soon finished with their exit ”, indicates the ECSEL contacted by DirectVelo. The group was located near Saint-Just-Saint-Rambert, a town located about twenty kilometers from the prefecture of the Loire.

This Wednesday, at 10 p.m., four cyclists were still hospitalized for various injuries. One of them is in “A worrying state”, informed ECSEL in a press release published on its website.

Club leaders quickly gathered at the club headquarters. “It’s terrible for everyone, even for those who weren’t about the accident. It’s really shocking ”, breathes Philippe Pradier, member of the executive committee at DirectVelo. Throughout the evening, they were able to meet the cyclists who had come to collect their belongings after being able to benefit from the support of the psychological unit set up. Pending further news of the wounded, ECSEL specifies in its press release that it is “No need to overbid in comments on this sufficiently dramatic event in itself”.
