Salzburg celebrated their fourth consecutive win with a 4-0 home win. Third shutout for Atte Tolvanen.
Red Bull Salzburg didn’t give Black Wings Linz a chance in the ICE Hockey League on Tuesday night. Eisbullen celebrated an uncontested 4-0 home win that should have been even higher. With the fourth victory in a row, Salzburg took revenge for the recent defeat in Linz.
The Red Bulls effectively had their opponent under control, who had to do without his injured scorer Brian Lebler. The Eisbullen already dominated the first third with 16:11 shots on goal, whereby they had the clearly better chances, especially in two strong power plays (each after a foul on Nicolai Meyer). But more than one hit to the crossbar in the final seconds did not come off.
In the middle period, only a four-minute majority game by Linzer stopped the constant pressure on Salzburg, who had previously given Benjamin Nissner a 1-0 lead. Subsequently, Eisbullen retook the lead and rewarded himself with a double hit within 35 seconds. First Lucas Thaler slipped the puck between the legs of visiting goalkeeper Thomas Höneckl. Then Nico Meyer let his opponent slip into space with a fine feint and finished with a powerful shot to the far post.
Shortly before the half-time siren, Peter Schneider, alone in front of Höneckl, missed the huge opportunity to score the number four. Paul Huber did better shortly after the restart by cornering the keeper with a quick hook and shooting inside. After that, no other hits wanted to be successful. Salzburg goalkeeper Atte Tolvanen recorded his third shutout. Coach Matt McIlvane was even happier with “how we played together as a team.”
Meanwhile, Zell am See missed the chance to qualify directly for the playoffs of the Alps Hockey League. The polar bears were beaten 0:3 in Renon on Tuesday and can no longer oust the South Tyroleans from fifth place.
