Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has demanded the resignation of Vera Jurova, Vice-President of the European Commission (EC) for Values. The European Commission does not intend to comply with the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s demand for the dismissal of Vice-President Vera Jourova. Commission spokeswoman Dana Spinanta said that by calling Hungary a sick democracy, Jourova had long expressed her concerns.
“President von der Leiena works closely with his Vice-President, Jourov, on the rule of law, and the President trusts her completely. Our concerns about the rule of law in Hungary are well known. They will be set out in a report on the rule of law, which will be approved tomorrow, “said Spinanta.
The so-called rule of law report will be the first European Commission document to analyze the state of the rule of law in all bloc member states. It is planned that in the future the European Commission will regularly issue such an assessment in order to identify and point out problems in one of the 27 countries in good time. These are the independence of the judiciary, the freedom and diversity of opinion in the media, the smooth running of non-governmental organizations and other parameters that make up a free democracy as a whole.
The Hungarian government continues to deny that there are any problems with democracy or the rule of law in their country. Orban regularly writes off such accusations against Western revenge for Hungary’s unwillingness to take in refugees and asylum seekers. He also justifies this with differences of opinion between Western liberal-minded politicians and his model of conservative values.
It should be noted that Jourova comes from Hungary’s neighbor Czech Republic. She has repeatedly said that she remembers the times of socialism when there was only one right opinion. That is why she does not want this to happen again in today’s Europe.
Most likely, von der Leiena deliberately entrusted the Czech politician with answering questions of the rule of law and values, as it is difficult for critics to accuse her of Western dictation and lack of understanding of the situation in Central Europe.
But on Monday, September 28, the Hungarian internet portal origo.hu has published a statement that Jourova is a close associate of billionaire George Soros. The publication states that Jourova is openly lying about the lack of critical publications in the Hungarian media.
It should be noted that
this week, the foreign ministers of Poland and Hungary announced their intention to set up an institute of justice.
It will analyze the state of democracy in Western Europe. This will be done to refute criticism of the policies of Warsaw and Budapest officials.
