What role does the category gender play in the constitution of comics and film? Véronique Sina explores this question using selected comic and film examples such as Frank Miller’s »Sin City«, Enki Bilal’s »Immortel (ad vitam)« or Matthew Vaughn’s »Kick-Ass«. On the basis of a detailed, comparative analysis of both media, she develops the concept of the performative comic film and at the same time illustrates how comics, film and gender mutually generate and productively affect each other. With this focus on the reciprocal relationship between the performativity of gender and the mediality of the performative, the study makes an important contribution to gender media studies.
