Ebersberg – drunk man flees the police – helicopter use saves his life

Ebersberg – In the middle of the night a drunk man had put his car in the embankment near Ebersberg. The police reported that his subsequent escape almost cost him his life.

The 59-year-old Ebersberger had gotten off the road on Sunday night at the Reitgesinger junction near Ebersberg, his car was stuck in the embankment. Two other road users tried to help the man and noticed that he was heavily drunk. By chance, a patrol from the Ebersberg police station passed the location.

The 59-year-old took this as an opportunity to flee: he ran across the field in the direction of Ebersberg, the officials report. Although they immediately looked for him during the incident around midnight, he could not be found at first. The police officers then called for a police helicopter.

This was initially on another mission, so it took some time to arrive, reports the police. The helicopter crew found what they were looking for, spotting the fugitive around 2 a.m. around 400 meters east of Reitgesing. There he was lying motionless in a field on the ground. The officers in the air led their Ebersberg colleagues on the ground to the inaccessible place according to the report.

According to the police, the drunk was already severely hypothermic and could no longer move independently. He was brought to the Ebersberg district clinic. There he received medical attention – and blood was drawn to determine whether he was alcoholic. The man hasn’t had a driver’s license for a long time.

The man caused a lot of trouble with his trip, and yet he was lucky that the officers were looking so hard for him. The officials write in their follow-up report: “He probably would not have survived the frosty night.”
