As the Philadelphia 76ers and the rest of the NBA continue to navigate their season in the safest way possible amid a global pandemic, there are areas that are loosening their restrictions as everyone keeps moving forward. .
For example, the state of Florida has been infamous for its role throughout this process as it has failed to implement many restrictions. The state has been open for the most part and they recently lifted their statewide restrictions.
With the Sixers visiting the Orlando Magic on New Years Eve, they’ll be performing in front of 4,000 fans, which is the capacity the Magic can have in their 20,000-seat arena.
Coming from a state of Pennsylvania where there are a lot of restrictions, coach Doc Rivers was surprised at how loose things were in Florida.
“I don’t want to take a picture in any state though, my God,” Rivers said. “Yesterday I was under my bed, I was so scared. People are walking around like there is nothing here, I’m surprised. I know there will only be around 3000 in the arena which will be a bit safer, but I was quite surprised at how open and maskless this place is. ”
Now the Sixers played in front of the fans when they faced the Cleveland Cavaliers in December. 27, but it was only 300 fans allowed. The magic goes as far as it can go and it can make someone uncomfortable during these times.
“It’s a safe place to be, but our guys are great, really I think they do a great job,” Rivers said. “We’re hearing that you go from state to state, but you still have the same NBA protocols and I think that’s really important.
