There’s a whole bunch of excitement surrounding the Missouri soccer program right now and it’s seeping down to the scouting track where head coach Eliah Drinkwitz and his team added another big commitment on Friday morning by returning four-star wide receiver Dominic Lovett of Arizona State.
Outside of the local East St. Louis (Ill.) Haut power station, Lovett’s promise drives the Tigers to No. 26 in the 247Sports composite team recruitment ranking, the best place in the program since the end of the 2015 promotion No. 25.
The Tigers are 5-3, obviously playing a fully DRY schedule on the pitch and Drinkwitz and the company are recruiting at a level to ultimately elevate those results on the road.
“They have exceeded expectations,” East St. Louis assistant coach Harith Mitchom said. “When the calendar came out, I thought they would be lucky to win two games. ”
After winning five of the last six, Drinkwitz hopes to end 2020 with seven wins. Obviously the Tigers have a tough job this Saturday with Georgia coming into town and they round out the campaign with a road game in Mississippi State next weekend, so we’ll see what happens, but the story in Colombia is one of a stimulating upward trajectory. Last Saturday they made the biggest fourth quarter comeback in program history to beat Arkansas and find themselves ranked no. 25 in the last ranking of the college football qualifiers.
“Drink has a lot of bluster,” St. Louis (Mo.) Lutheran North head coach Carl Reed said. Reed has highly recruited prospects with each cycle coming out of his program, including Travion Ford, the four-star racer, who is the crown jewel of this Mizzou transport in 2021. “His energy is contagious and contagious and the kids really feel his energy and its fire. I saw him the first time I met him. The first time I met him I knew I felt like he was going to be special and bring a different energy to the program. I had no idea it was coming soon, but it had a major impact on the recruiting process and everyone is taking notice. ”
Lovett joins teammate and four-star Top247 compatriot Tyler Macon’s quarterback in delivering Drinkwitz and Mizzou his pledge.
“They seem to be focused on building something to bring them back to the SEC championship game,” Mitchom said. “Drink and the staff seem to be strong people who help connect with the rookies. ”
With Lovett in the boat, the class is at 21 with major targets like defensive ends Arden Walker and Byron Young on the board along with cornerbacks Dontae Balfour and Jadarrius Perkins.
“I talk to them pretty much every day,” Walker said of Mizzou before going into what pops out. “Certainly the staff and the culture. I’ve seen it for the last couple of months and some of the guys involved I’ve talked to them and been able to see some progress. ”
Landing Lovett is another proof. Is the 2022 class also on the move ?.
