PLANICA. In the end, Ebba Andersson got to celebrate her WC gold with her family.
Then she got a shock when she saw father Per-Ola’s red eye.
– It is the flip side of something completely extra happening, she says.
Sportbladet followed the riot in the stands next to Ebba Andersson’s father Per-Ola Andersson and mother Åsa Lundmark.
Per-Ola’s eyes were certainly filled with tears of happiness, otherwise everything was in order.
But when father and daughter finally got to celebrate together outside the ski stadium, Per-Ola’s left eye had turned red.
Was examined by the national team doctor
– What have you done!? Oh my God! exclaimed the new WC gold medalist.
– Nothing, replied Per-Ola.
Of course, we had to check out what actually happened. Is there some wild victory celebration behind it?
It turns out that Per-Ola answered completely honestly. He hasn’t done anything special, other than shouting his daughter to gold of course.
– I have spoken to the national team doctor. They think it’s because I’ve screamed so much, he says.
“Like a bruise”
You haven’t caught anything in the eye?
– No, they say it’s like a bruise. That a blood vessel has broken. I can see well and there is no danger, says Per-Ola calmly and tells us that he has had eye surgery recently.
You really did everything you could from the stands to make it gold?
– You could say that.
When Ebba hears the explanation after the medal ceremony, she laughs.
– It is the flip side of something completely extra happening. Everything has a price, that’s right. But if it’s not worse than that, it’s probably worth it, says Ebba.
