Ebay shows real people and their stories in a new video series

A change in brand communication for eBay: For the first time, the video series focuses on real stories; eBay plays a central role in each case. As in the story of Marie and her grandmother “Mucki”, the one in the first Video was seen. Now eBay is continuing the series under the motto “Find gifts that make you happy” with a second film and shows which emotions can be associated with gifts.

All the stories, gifts and actors that can be seen in the videos are authentic, as Linde Scheers, Chief Marketing Officer at eBay, explains: “There were no coordinated wordings and settings, no script, no props, we didn’t even know how long the movie will end up being. Approaching a production in this way requires above all courage and great trust in production and creation. “

The current movie shows how closely memories and true emotions can be linked to gifts. Especially with gifts that cannot be bought everywhere. This time with Angelika, who found a particularly groundbreaking memento for her sister Kasia on eBay. The spot can be seen on YouTube, Instagram and Facebook. MediaCom, Düsseldorf, is responsible for media planning.

The first film with Marie and her grandmother “Mucki” was very successful before Christmas with a high engagement rate, the comments and reactions on the various channels were consistently positive; many users told their own story about special gifts they found on eBay in the comments. Overall, the film was able to record over four million views and a view-through rate of over 24 percent – with a length of 1:28 minutes. The campaign will continue in the future, with two more films going online in February and March.
