eBay Announces Layoffs of 9% of Staff to Save Costs

Trading website eBay is laying off 9 percent of its staff. It concerns about a thousand people. The intervention would be necessary to save costs.

In addition to the layoffs, eBay plans to reduce the number of contracts with freelancers in the coming months, the company reports. The intervention would be necessary to keep costs under control. “While we are making progress against our strategy, our total headcount and costs are exceeding the growth of our business,” said director Jamie Iannone.

The company informed staff of the layoffs on Tuesday and will hold discussions with the affected employees on Wednesday. The company owned the Dutch Marktplaats for a long time, but sold the site a few years ago to the Norwegian Adevinta. eBay isn’t the only tech company in the process of layoffs. TikTok is happening by laying off sixty employees.
