“In addition to good care, good catering is the basis for people to feel comfortable and at home in the facilities. The seven coaching facilities in Lower Franconia have recognized this and have set out to coach senior citizens”, says Brigitte Master builder from the specialist center for nutrition / community catering in Lower Franconia Now this coaching ended with the handing over of the certificate by the head of the authorities Harald Blankart from the Office for Food, Agriculture and Forests in Würzburg. The office reported this in a press release.
The office explains what it is about. Enjoyment, variety, conviviality, encounters and a sense of home, all of this can offer a deliciously prepared and beautifully designed meal. The supply of all necessary nutrients is the basis for physical well-being and quality of life. The daily meals are a highlight for everyone, but especially for seniors in stationary senior facilities.
In January 2020, facility management, kitchen management and care service management from seven senior facilities in Lower Franconia started together with Brigitte Baumeister to analyze their catering situation more precisely and to optimize it if necessary. This is reported by the office. Ms. Moritz von Hutten’sches Pfründnerspital in Arnstein, the BRK retirement and nursing home in Bad Neustadt an der Saale, the senior citizens’ residence Zur Sandmühle quality of life in old age in Kahl am Main, the Otto and Anna Herold retirement home foundation in Karlstadt, the Caritas senior center St. Martin in Lohr, the AWO senior center in Mömlingen and the senior citizens’ home from Steren, Bürgerspital in Würzburg.
In the beginning, the focus was on the topics of eating atmosphere and menu planning. The participants developed ideas for their facilities and implemented them in their kitchens, such as creating a balanced menu line, adding more vegetables and legumes to the menu, trying out new recipes, looking after new dishes, making the dining atmosphere more comfortable. Due to the corona pandemic, the other coaching plans were initially postponed, dealing with this crisis was now the focus. From June, the coaching was continued with the topics of sustainability and communication. The further development could be accompanied with online seminars and telephone calls.
Now, according to the press release, at the end of the coaching it can be seen that each of the facilities has already implemented goals that can be achieved at short notice, such as changes in the menu or in meeting management. Other goals can only be achieved in the long term, such as the change in the output system.
The basis of the coaching is therefore the Bavarian Guidelines for Seniors’ Catering of the Bavarian State Ministry for Food, Agriculture and Forests.
