Eating Fast Food Linked to Higher Cancer Risk: Study Reveals Dangerous Relationship

Scientists have revealed a worrying relationship between eating fast food and a higher risk of cancer.

A team of researchers in Singapore found that eating foods rich in fat and sugar causes the body to produce a compound that can turn off an important gene that stops tumors.

In a ground-breaking discovery, scientists proved that Methylglyoxal has the ability to stop the activity of the cancer-fighting BRCA2 gene.

“Methylglyoxal destroys the BRCA2 protein, reducing its levels in cells,” said Dr. Ashok Venkitaraman, lead researcher and director of the Center for Cancer Research at the National University of Singapore, to Medical News Today. “This effect is temporary, but it can occur and last long enough to interfere with the function of BRCA2 in preventing tumors.”

Dr. Venkitaraman explained that frequent consumption of ultra-processed foods, full of fat and sugar, may lead to increased genetic damage and thus increase the risk of cancer.

The researcher said, “We found that Methylglyoxal inhibits the function of the BRCA2 gene in preventing tumors, which ultimately lead to defects in DNA, which are early warning signs of cancer development.”

The study also pointed out that people with diabetes and pre-diabetes often have high levels of Methylglyoxal in their bodies, so they should be more careful in eating fast food , processed foods, and sugar.
