Europe’s largest car parking operator has announced that partial information about its users has fallen into the hands of hackers, officially acknowledging the cyber attack and data leak.
EasyPark Group owns apps such as RingGo and ParkMobile. They discovered that the hackers managed to gain access to users’ names, phone numbers, addresses, e-mail addresses, as well as some bank card information. However, EasyPark Group guarantees that it will not be possible to make purchases with this bank information, so users do not have to worry about it.
Also, it is not known how much user information was stolen, so it is impossible to judge the scale of this attack. Information has been made public that 950 RingGo users in the UK have fallen into the hands of hackers, and most of the affected customers are from Europe. The company itself is contacting affected users privately to inform them. The cyber attack took place on December 10, but there is currently no information that the hackers used them in any way or that a ransom was demanded.
This fact indicates that the world is increasingly digitized in the field of parking payments, and thus new services are emerging that digitally store user information. This possibility is reduced if payment is made in classic machines that do not store information.
Apps developed by EasyPark Group are available in more than 4,000 cities in 23 countries, including the US, Australia and New Zealand. According to the company, the parking payment service is the largest in Europe, which makes this fact about the leak even more significant.
