easyJet airline pilots reveal the scariest airports in the world. To be able to take off and land here requires extra training.
An easyJet pilot was asked via Tiktok about a certain challenging route to fly. He then revealed a number of destination airports that needed more training so that the plane could be piloted safely.
In a video, he explains that pilots need to spend extra time in the flight simulator before they can fly to Mykonos in Greece, Funchal in Portugal and Innsbruck in Austria.
“There are several airstrips around the easyJet network which require additional training in simulators due to their complexity. The complexity could be due to the short runways or high enough above sea level or there is a lot of terrain to consider,” he said as quoted by Antara. The SunSunday (11/6/2023).
He explained, Mykonos Airport has a very short and narrow runway. Then there is Funchal in Madeira which is famous for its disturbing winds.
“And then Innsbruck as well. On that one, the captain and first officer both need additional training in the simulator. Then they have to fly there with the training captain before they can fly there with the passengers,” he replied.
The video has been viewed more than 300,000 times since it was posted. After that, many people are now worried about flying to these places.
“So there are 3 places I won’t go to,” commented one netizen.
“I thought an Innsbruck ski holiday was safe!” wrote another.
But besides these airports, there are also scarier runways elsewhere in the world.
One of them is Hechi Airport, in China. This airport is located at an altitude of 1,000 feet or 304.8 meters above sea level. This position makes the weather windy and of course the pilot needs accurate calculations.
Elsewhere, Scotland’s Outer Hebridean Island of Barra has a runway that sits on the beach. According to Weather.com, landing at this unique airport is subject to sea conditions.
“During high tide the runway is completely submerged in water. When the runway is not in use for landings Traigh Mhor Bay is often occupied by kite surfers and clam hunters,” he wrote.
