Easy Jet Announces Two New Routes from Lyon to Spain

Easy Jet is opening two new routes from Lyon to Spain.

The low-cost airline Easy Jet is opening two new routes to Spain from Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport.

Ecological beliefs definitely come at a high price when it comes to travel. The airline Easy Jet announced this Tuesday the opening of two new routes from Lyon, to Madrid and Alicante in Spain.

The train, a very distant competitor…

From March 31, the operator will offer two flights per week, on Friday and Sunday to reach the Spanish capital in less than two hours from just €35. The line to Alicante will open on May 4 with two flights per week on Tuesday and Saturday, again from €35. Tickets are already on sale.

For comparison, it takes around 8 hours to reach Madrid from Lyon by train since no direct line is offered. However, and recently, Renfe has offered to reach Barcelona from Lyon in five hours (with eleven stops) for a little less than €80 (price noted this Tuesday) or Madrid from Marseille via Barcelona in more than 7 hours for a hundred euros.

Note, however, that the train journey allows departure and arrival in the city center unlike the plane which requires long – and expensive – journeys to reach the airport from the city center and vice versa. In terms of carbon footprint, a Lyon-Madrid plane emits on average 200 kg of CO2 per passenger according to Ademecompared to 2.8 kg for the train.
