Even two months after the shooting at a picture of Mary with the baby Jesus, the Sanja Ameti case is making headlines: As the NZZ reportsthe eastern Swiss board of Operation Libero, of which Ameti is co-president of the national board, has submitted its resignation.

As the report states, the way the organization’s top management dealt with the Ameti case was said to have been decisive for this. Weeks ago, the headquarters in Zurich were said to have been given an ultimatum demanding Ametis’ exclusion. When this didn’t happen, the five-member board from eastern Switzerland pulled the ripcord.

“Incompatible with our values”

In their ultimatum, the Eastern Swiss members expressed fears that Operation Libero could suffer political damage if Ameti remained in office. There is no question of “protecting Sanija as a person,” it says in an email that the NZZ has received.

However, the statutory goals and the organization also need to be protected. And the organization always comes first. It goes on to say: “For the entire Eastern Switzerland board, Sanija remaining in office as our co-president cannot be reconciled with our personal values and our understanding of the accountability that we also have towards you as club members.”

At the national level, Operation Libero continues to support Ameti. Stefan Manser-Egli, co-president of Operation Libero, told the NZZ that they regretted the resignation of the eastern Swiss board. At the same time, he maintained that he would continue to stand behind Sanija Ameti. The other regional sections would also support this.

At the beginning of September, Sanija Ameti posted a picture of herself with a weapon on Instagram and a second picture showing a picture of Mary with the baby Jesus with holes in it. The Zurich woman deleted the posts a little later and apologized, but the case still caused a stir across the country. Your GLP party then started an exclusion process. She also lost her job at the Farner PR agency. (dab/watson)
