Within the framework of the initiatives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, and in implementation of the directives of Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, and Dr. Mamdouh Ghorab, Governor of Sharkia, Dr. Hisham Shawky Masoud, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Sharkia, stated that the medical teams of the presidential initiative to support maternal and fetal health provided the service medical examinations, and conducting the necessary examinations for 122,765 pregnant women, since its launch in Sharkia Governorate in December 2020.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry explained that the initiative aims to reach a generation of healthy children free from diseases transmitted from the mother to the fetus, and to reduce deaths resulting from these diseases, as the initiative targets pregnant women from the first day of pregnancy until birth, for early detection of various transmitted infectious diseases. From the mother to the fetus, including infection with HIV, HBV, and syphilis, in addition to detecting sugar and pressure for pregnant women, and measuring the body mass index to determine the appropriate nutritional program and maintain the ideal weight during pregnancy and postpartum.
He added that the follow-up and treatment services are provided through the medical centers and health units in the governorate, and those who are infected are directed and referred to receive the necessary evaluation and treatment in the specific referral hospitals in the governorate, pointing to the preparation of medical clinics and examination places, and their continuous support with medical supplies, while ensuring the privacy of the examination places, and the confidentiality of the results. And training service providers on good reception and dealing with frequent visitors on the presidential initiative.
“Masoud” added that the presidential initiative to support the health of the mother and the fetus targets medical examination for pregnant women, both Egyptian and non-Egyptian, in the cities and villages of Sharkia Governorate, in the age group over 18 years, between education, awareness and medical examination, through a medical team trained in examination work from “doctors, Nursing, data entry, and rural pioneers, with a total of 358 medical teams, with 358 points.
