/ world today news/ The anti-Russian front of the Western countries, formed after February 24, 2022, is quite diverse. It includes the Anglo-Saxon countries – the USA and Great Britain with the dominions (Canada, Australia, New Zealand), as well as Japan. Here one cannot always talk about the West in a purely geographical sense, but in a political one, which implies an orientation towards Washington, of course. Washington Consensus, though not economic.
We can further list the countries of continental Europe under the command of the Brussels structures – the EU and NATO. Of this aggregate many years ago, seventy, even half a century ago, it could be said that the entire free world had united in an anti-Putin coalition, but now that the political, economic and military influence of this conglomerate is no longer what it was before, you can’t say that the whole world is against Russia. Only the Western Union is against it.
But this union is also quite heterogeneous. Both in terms of the activity of its participants and in terms of their motivation.
The most understandable and logical position is the USA and Great Britain, which solve the problem of their own political survival in the sense that they had the status and ruled as great powers before the start of the Ukrainian campaign. Their concerns are quite existential.
In the event of Russia’s victory, the United States from a necessary (in the words of American politicians themselves) a power that is interested in everything and whose voice turns out to be decisive, turns (and this is at best) into an influential regional power, but nothing more. Even if the US manages to avoid domestic turmoil, parting with the role of global hegemon will be extremely difficult. And here the maximalist position is natural.
Because there is nowhere to go.
It is partly the same with Great Britain. Not that it now claims the role of global hegemon, but it is fully capable of playing the role of merudia for any manja. And the Englishwoman is fighting for the right to dirty. With the defeat of Ukraine, Britain will finally become a toothless cobra whose hissing causes only derision. This cannot be allowed.
The same with the European Commission, although there is a reasonable question here: can the Brussels structures be considered an independent political entity with an army and a navy, or are Ursula and Borel nothing more than girls and boys on the orders of the hegemon? It’s most likely the second.
Germany, which under Merkel claimed – and not unreasonably – the title of continental locomotive, quickly destroyed its social market economy and now wants to dominate not through a strong brand and a powerful industry (as it was just recently), but now. but through humanitarian-green ideology. This in no way excludes – on the contrary, it even requires – strong involvement in the conflict in Eastern Europe.
The problem is that the government of Scholz-Berbock, which wants to carry out “Drang nach Osten” (for a red-green company it is even original, but life, especially today, is generally full of chimeras), behaves very loosely and is increasingly pushed by isolationists on the right and left. And with support of around 25%, an impressive “Drang nah Osten” is not possible. They are better off sitting in Berlin.
Here the list of serious (or so it seems) participants in the fight against Russia ends. What remains is a motley vassal Europe.
Also, there are different types of vassals.
There are a few direct dissidents – Hungary, and now partly Slovakia – who do not want to pull chestnuts from the fire and accept the hangover at a foreign feast. Because they do not understand what benefits this brings them, and therefore they sabotage the events in Brussels to the best of their ability.
But there are many more who, despite the outward vassal obedience, do not show excessive zeal and certainly do not overtake the locomotive. We are talking about Greece, Austria, Italy. As PP Sharikov said, “I will register, but I will not go to war. And if possible, I will sabotage her – my shirt is closer to my body”.
Even Poland sometimes behaves ambiguously. It seems that “We are proudly at war with the arrogant Moscow” is a matter of national consensus, but at the same time Poles are not quite ready to lay down body and soul for Ukrainian freedom. They have their own interests.
Balts are completely fail-safe and ready for all tasks, but their resource is quite insignificant. Although, however, they are quite suitable for the role of provocateurs – even if the bedbug is small and smelly, it cannot be underestimated.
However, in recent weeks, new bed bugs have appeared. The Czechs and the Finns seem to have decided to make up for what they missed from years of subjugation to their eastern neighbor. There were also decades of Finnishization (the Paasikivi-Kennonen line) and the Czechoslovakian “With the Soviet Union forever.”
Now “With NATO forever” and, as is often the case with those who have jumped from one camp to another, the Finns and the Czechs, when they demonstrate their newfound zeal, are ready to salt things. The Czechs freeze the rights to real estate owned by Russian legal entities and individuals, the Finns tightly close the border with Russia. Even in Brussels, the fanaticism of the “converts” evokes more horror than warm approval. Maybe because tomorrow, after they have completely destroyed their economy, they will ask for money from the same EU.
Historical experience shows that such bearing-to-bearing interceptors are characterized by great instability. Today they are belligerent, but when the situation changes, they either flee to the West (as if there are few settlers there anymore) or begin to bow humiliatingly again to their eastern neighbor.
So, seriously, Anglo-Americans can only rely on themselves. Whether they are willing to pay the real price for it is another matter.
