Countries in Eastern Europe are being hit by heavy snowfall and electricity outages. In Moldova, a 40-year-old man was killed when his car skidded off the road and crashed into a tree. People have been advised to only go on the road if necessary.

In Romania, code red was issued in four provinces. Romanian Energy Minister Burduja told the AP news agency that more than 400 places are experiencing power outages. Emergency services say several national and local roads are closed in the affected provinces.

The severe weather is also causing large-scale power outages in Bulgaria, especially in the northeast. A state of emergency was declared in several parts of the country. At least two people were killed in heavy weather accidents. Several dozen people were injured.
